About Fascinating Dentistry

Fascinating Dentistry is Australia's independent dental directory publishing evidence-based, medically reviewed content. Learn about our team and standards.

Fascinating Dentistry is an independent Australian dental information and directory platform. We publish evidence-based, medically reviewed content and maintain a national directory of verified dental practices. Our editorial team operates with full independence from any advertiser. This page explains what we do, why we exist, who writes and reviews our content, and how we are funded.

What Is Fascinating Dentistry?

Fascinating Dentistry is an Australian dental directory and information resource that publishes verified, evidence-based content alongside structured practice listings across the country. Every clinical article undergoes review by an AHPRA-registered dentist before publication.

Our platform covers 3 core content areas: treatment information written in plain language for patients, cost and process guides specific to the Australian healthcare system, and practice directories organised by location and service type. We currently cover 42 dental services nationally, ranging from routine examinations and scale-and-clean procedures to complex treatments including dental implants, orthognathic surgery, and full-mouth rehabilitation.

We cite Australian authoritative bodies only, including the Australian Dental Association (ADA), the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). We do not publish content based on opinion, manufacturer claims, or marketing materials.

Every article traces back to a verifiable, publicly accessible source. We document our full methodology separately, including the sourcing framework, evidence hierarchy, review cycles, and ranking criteria that govern every page on the site.

Why Did We Build This Directory?

Australian patients face genuine confusion between paid listings and genuine editorial content when researching dental treatment online. Many websites that appear to be independent directories operate as paid lead-generation networks, where practices pay to appear at the top of search results without disclosure. Patients cannot distinguish between advertising and editorial recommendation on these platforms.

The need for transparent, verified dental information in Australia is measurable. According to the AIHW's 2022 oral health and dental care report, approximately 32% of Australian adults delayed or avoided visiting a dentist due to cost concerns. A further 20% avoided dental care because they could not find clear, trustworthy information about treatment options, expected costs, or which practitioner to consult. Patients who cannot find reliable information online often delay treatment, which leads to worse clinical outcomes and higher long-term costs.

Fascinating Dentistry addresses this gap by separating editorial content from advertising with explicit labelling on every page. Our disclosures policy documents every paid relationship on the site, including which practices advertise, where advertisements appear, and how editorial decisions remain independent of commercial arrangements. We built this platform to give Australian patients a dental information source they can verify independently, without guessing whether a recommendation is bought or earned.

How Does Our Directory Work?

Our directory follows a 3-tier structure: a national hub, city-level directories, and individual service pages. Each tier links to the next, allowing patients to move from general treatment information to specific practice listings in their area.

The Australian dental directory hub serves as the entry point for all location-based searches. From the national hub, patients navigate to city directories. We currently maintain active directories for Sydney and Brisbane, with expansion planned for Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, and Canberra.

Each city directory contains Top 10 practice listicles organised by service type, for example, "Top 10 Dental Implant Clinics in Sydney" or "Top 10 Orthodontists in Brisbane." Each listicle entry links to a dedicated practice profile page containing verified information: AHPRA registration status, street address, contact details, services offered, practitioner qualifications, and aggregated patient review signals drawn from multiple public sources.

Our 42 service categories span preventive dentistry (check-ups, cleans, fluoride treatments), restorative dentistry (fillings, crowns, bridges, implants), cosmetic dentistry (veneers, whitening, bonding), orthodontics (traditional braces, clear aligners), oral surgery (extractions, wisdom teeth), and specialist referrals (periodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics, paediatric dentistry). Every service page connects to the relevant city directory for patients ready to find a practitioner.

How Do We Rank Dental Practices?

We rank dental practices using objective criteria only. AHPRA-registered status is a baseline requirement, any practice listed on our directory must hold current registration with the Dental Board of Australia via AHPRA. We verify this quarterly using the public AHPRA register.

Our ranking methodology evaluates 5 factors. Registration status confirms the practice and its practitioners hold valid AHPRA registration. Clinical scope alignment measures whether the practice offers the specific service a patient is searching for. Aggregated review signals compile patient feedback from verified third-party sources. Years of established practice reflect stability and community presence. Practitioner qualifications assess the educational and specialist credentials of treating dentists.

Each factor carries a documented weight. No paid arrangement changes a practice's ranking position. A practice that pays for advertising appears in a clearly labelled advertising slot, visually and structurally separate from editorial rankings. Practices that do not advertise can and do appear in editorial rankings based on the same objective criteria applied to every listed practice.

We document the full ranking methodology, including factor weights and calculation methods, on our full methodology page. Our disclosures policy documents how paid placements are labelled, where they appear, and how editorial independence is maintained.

Who Writes and Reviews Our Content?

Our content pipeline follows a 2-stage process: trained health writers draft every article, and an AHPRA-registered dentist reviews every clinical article before publication. No clinical content goes live without dentist sign-off.

Dr Anthony Au leads our clinical review process. Dr Au holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), a Master of Dental Science in Prosthodontics (MDSc), Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS), and Fellowship of the International College of Dentists (FICD). He practises as a prosthodontist and serves as a visiting senior lecturer at the University of Sydney. Dr Au has contributed to more than 20 peer-reviewed publications spanning prosthodontic treatment outcomes, implant survival rates, and digital dentistry workflows.

Our editorial team is growing. We are currently assembling a team of health writers with Australian healthcare communications experience and additional AHPRA-registered dental reviewers to cover specialist areas including orthodontics, periodontics, oral surgery, and paediatric dentistry.

We verify AHPRA registration for every clinical reviewer quarterly using the public AHPRA register. Reviewer names and credentials appear on every article they review. Our medical review process documents each review stage, from initial draft through clinical edit to final approval.

What Are Our Editorial Standards?

Our editorial standards rest on 4 commitments: evidence-based sourcing, Australian-only authoritative references, plain language, and regular review cycles.

Every clinical article cites a minimum of 3 source categories, typically peer-reviewed journals, Australian clinical guidelines from the NHMRC or ADA, and government health data from the AIHW. We do not use superlatives such as "best," "leading," or "top-rated" in editorial content. When we identify an error, we publish a correction publicly.

We review clinical content on a 12-month cycle and cost-related content on a 6-month cycle. Each review verifies that cited sources remain current, published fees reflect prevailing market rates, and clinical guidance aligns with the latest Australian guidelines.

Our editorial policy documents these standards in full, including the evidence hierarchy, language guidelines, and conflict-of-interest rules. Our full methodology describes the sourcing framework and review schedule in detail. Our corrections log lists every published correction with date, article, and description of the change.

How Is Fascinating Dentistry Funded?

Fascinating Dentistry earns revenue from advertising placed by dental practices listed on our directory. Advertising takes 2 forms: featured placement slots on directory pages and display advertising on information pages.

We maintain complete editorial independence from advertisers. No advertiser can influence article content, practice rankings, or clinical review outcomes. Advertising agreements never include commitments related to editorial coverage. Paid placements are always labelled with "Advertisement" or "Sponsored", visually and structurally separated from editorial rankings and information pages.

Our disclosures policy documents the full funding model, including how advertising is sold, what percentage of the site contains paid placements, and how editorial decisions remain separated from commercial arrangements.

Frequently Asked Questions About Us

Is Fascinating Dentistry a dental practice?

No. Fascinating Dentistry is an independent Australian dental information and directory platform, not a dental practice. We do not provide dental treatment, employ treating dentists, or operate clinics. We publish verified information and list dental practices across Australia. To discuss a listing, correction, or partnership, contact us directly.

How do you make money?

We earn revenue from advertising placed by dental practices. Advertising has zero influence on editorial content or practice rankings. Paid placements are clearly labelled. Our disclosures policy documents the full funding model.

Can I trust the information on your site?

Yes. Every clinical article is written by trained health writers and reviewed by an AHPRA-registered dentist before publication. We cite peer-reviewed evidence and Australian clinical guidelines. Our full methodology documents our sourcing framework and review process in full.

How do you decide which practices to list?

All listed practices must hold current AHPRA registration. Rankings within our Top 10 listicles follow objective criteria, registration status, clinical scope, aggregated review signals, qualifications, and years of practice. Paid placements never change a practice's ranking position. Details are published in our disclosures policy.
